Due to the strain on housing in the UK to satisfy a need for small, low cost, affordable accommodation most Council’s positively encourage flat conversions, provided that the buildings to be converted are suitable for that purpose and the conversion itself will not lead to harm to the host property or the local area. Davies Architectural Services have an expanse of knowledge with regards to flat conversions and are happy to discuss if your property could benefit from this initiative. We work with a number of developers across the South West and have carried out numerous successful flat conversion projects demonstrating our prestige with this type of project.
As a rule of typical properties that can benefit from this initiative are usually one of the following:
- Large detached or semi-detached properties which are no longer suitable for single family occupation. This may include large terraced housing
- Other large non-residential properties suitable for conversion subject to compliance with other policies in the Local Plan
- Any property that is in existing use as bedsits or an HMO which would benefit from upgrading to self-contained flats
- Any shops with vacant space above
It is worth noting however that Davies Architectural Services have also obtained planning permission for flat conversions that do not fall under the above categories so it is always worth having a discussion with us if you are thinking of this type of development.
See examples below of some DAS clients who have benefited from a DAS designed flat conversions.
